Gatchaman film!
There's another full-featured anime film coming out, but this time it isn't live action. Imagi animation studios will be cranking out an all CG version of Gatchaman. This old-school anime was due for a revival.

A great review on a different type of Manga
The Daily Yomiuri has an excellent review of The Push Man, a vintage collection of manga that visits the daily lives of various Japanese men in the 1960's. It's a great review about a very different kind of manga.

Nobel Prize for...Anime!?!
In one of the weirdest Anime-related statements to ever come out of Japan, Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso called for creation of a manga Nobel Prize for up-and-coming non-Japanese comic-strip artists as a way to boost the country's diplomacy.

More Mobile Manga
Tokyopop and Uclick are making downloadable manga available for mobile phones. Mobile comics are getting more popular, but I wonder about Tokypop's choice of titles for this move.

Death Note Movie Teaser
There's a new teaser for the live-action Death Note movies out. It's nice to see it, but I'll admit I was a little disappointed.

Tokyo governor disses Mickey Mouse
Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara gave Mickey Mouse a verbal beatdown at Tokyo International Anime Fair on Saturday. Is it strange that Japanese politicians are so into Anime?

Anime with a Feminist message
Eastern Michigan's Echo Online publication has an article about a Women's Studies scholar that's using Anime as a medium for the message of the role of the woman in Japanese culture. It's an interesting read, and a great example of the wide range of topics that Anime covers.

Death Note Movie site updated
The official site for the Death Note Live action movies has been updated. There's a simple Flash animation on there now with some entries in the Death Note. My Kanji reading is admittedlybad, so I won't offer any attempts at translation here. Production of the films seems to be on

Older Anime You May Have Missed - X: the Series
I think X: The TV Series is yet another little-known Anime gem. It's chock full of great stuff: tragic heroes, deeply developed characters, and totally kick-ass fight scenes. What more could you ask for?

Sherlock Holmes, doujinshi, and...yaoi?!
Calendarlive.com, a division of the LA Times, recently had an article about fanfiction or "non-canonical" stories that expand the Sherlock Holmes stories. In this article, the author references similarities with doujinshi and Yaoi. I never really thought that Sherlock Holmes and yaoi would be

Another take on Kappa Mikey
My little post about Kappa Mikey stirred up quite a bit of controversygood! The NY times has an article that provides a more favorable review of the show, but it brings up the same points I mentioned. The burning question remains: is this really Anime?
